Material Notes:
Extir LN 2001 belongs to a new expandable product family, the Leonardo Series. Extir LN 2001 is specially coated to be incorporated into bricks, concrete, mortar and plaster, in order to lighten them and to improve their thermal insulation.Applications: Typical applications of Extir LN 2001 are production of:• cellular bricks of low thermal conductivity. The prefoamed beads, blended with a clay mixture before extrusion, are vapourised during the brick baking phase, leaving an internal cellular structure with voids of 1-3 mm diameter. The bricks obtained are up to 20 % lighter and the heat conductivity is about 0.2 W/m°K. • lightened concrete with low thermal conductivity. The prefoamed beads, after coating with a suitable wetting agent, are added during the concrete mixing phase resulting in lightweight mortars with densities down to 200 kg/m³. For use in plaster and for insulated floors, typical mortar densities are 300-400 kg/m³, giving a heat conductivity of approximately 0.1 W/m°K.It is recommended to keep the product in a dry well ventilated store between 15-20°C. For product packaged in octabins the guaranteed shelf-life is one month; product in steel drums has a six months guaranteed shelf-life. During the processing of Expandable Polystyrene any sparkle or flame must be avoided and smoking should be forbidden. An adequate electrical grounding of machinery and of pneumatic transport lines is recommended. For further information concerning storage, packaging and processing precautions please refer to "Styrenics - Technical data sheets" and to the "Extir Safety Data Sheet".Processing: Extir LN 2001 can be easily pre-expanded down to 12 kg/m³ in one or two expansions (depending upon the prefoaming technology). The recommended ageing time prior to final use obviously depends on the pre-expanded density and it is minimum 12 hours. Extir LN 2001 cannot be moulded.Information provided by Polimeri Europa
