Material Notes:
Columbium is added to this alloy composition as a stabilizer. The addition of columbium reduces the possibility of intergranular chromium carbide precipitation and thus susceptibility to intergranular corrosion. Alloy 347 is used for welding 347 or 321 base metals that are stabilized with columbium or titanium. Although columbium is the stabilizing element usually specified in type 347 alloys, it should be noted that tantalum is also present. Tantalum and columbium are both good at stabilizing carbon and in providing high temperature strength.Information provided by Universal Wire Works for their line of welding wire and filler metal.
