Material Notes:
Dow Corning® Z-6665 Silane is high purity, undiluted n-octyltrimethoxy-silane. It can be used undiluted or diluted with an appropriate solvent in the formulation of water repellent products. With proper application, the formulated product will penetrate and provide water repellency by chemi-cally reacting to the cementitious substrate. Treated substrates are hydrophobic and retain their original appearance. Dow Corning Z-6665 Silane is a small molecule that enables deep penetration into cementitious surfaces. This material reacts with moisture in the air and in the substrate to produce hydroxy groups. These hydroxy groups then react with the substrate and each other to produce a hydro-phobic treatment that inhibits water absorption into the substrate. An alkaline environment, such as new concrete, will catalyze the reaction and speed the formation of the hydro-phobic surface. This reaction can also be catalyzed by acidic conditions and some metallic catalysts.Information provided by Dow Corning
