Manufacturing Insight EFR-2 Enhanced Fire Retardant Additive

EFR-2 is a highly efficient patented phosphate-based halogen-free fire retardant intumescent additive. It is pH neutral and water insoluble. EFR-2 is recommended for use in both interior and exterior exposures especially in thermoplastics such as polypropylene, polyethylene and PVC, but also polyvinyl acrylate, styrene acrylates and PVA emulsions. Applications where EFR-2 has found utility vary greatly from waterborne paints and adhesives to wire and cable jackets.EFR-2 is halogen-free, contains no metals, PBDEs, PBBs or other brominated compounds and does not evolve the highly toxic and corrosive gasses associated with many other fire retardant compounds. EFR-2 is a RoHS/WEEE compliant material. Flame spread and smoke developed values (ASTM E-84) typically around 10/10., as well as compliance with UL 94 VO, FAR 25.853 and IMO MSC.41.
